Abstract:

Illustrated trade cards issued by coffee manufacturers and retailers, chiefly American, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Printed text of cards pertains to advertising of coffee products, coffee preparation and/or the benefits of coffee drinking. Very few illustrations depict coffee or coffee use. While some illustrations are educational or promotional (e.g. history, geography, travel) most are generic scenes of domestic tranquility (e.g. happy, healthy children) or natural beauty (e.g. flowers, birds, landscapes).
